BlueBird in her new incarnation was launched in time to be at the dock in Saint-Tropez for May 30th 2007. The date was auspicious. Not only was it 69 years to the day from her original launch down the ways at Goole for Malcolm Campbell, it also marked her new owner’s birthday. The Earth’s annual journey around the Sun is a long one, and when three such significant events in a boat’s life line up so perfectly, it’s hard to put the juxtaposition down to anything so banal as coincidence. Some things, it appears, really are meant to be.
