PRECISION ENGINEERING

At 72 feet on deck, Baruna is about the size of a classic 12-metre. And she has the same proportions, narrow, with a deep forefoot. As a cruising yacht, she was designed with a centreboard and rigged as a yawl. Aesthetically, she was in a league of her own, even in those days. She had a majestic beauty that set her apart from all others. Even the sober book about the New York Yacht Club goes into raptures when it talks about Baruna, the slender, black beauty. And this she certainly was, in her heyday before & after the war, always groomed and presented to perfection. A Norwegian deckhand took care of her, painted, cleaned and polished her so that Baruna, as the Black Beauty, became a floating legend even then.
